BMMUK Consultation Period

Therapy Service Update

Thank you for visiting Black Minds Matter UK.

We believe in being transparent about our current position, as clarity is an important part of feeling informed and supported.

Our 1-to-1 Therapy Service Is Currently Closed

At present, we are not accepting new applications for our free one-to-one talking therapy service.

Demand for our therapy has grown beyond our current capacity. While the need within our community remains urgent, we do not currently have the resources to offer therapy in a way that is safe, ethical, and timely. For this reason, we are choosing not to open applications until we are able to meet that need responsibly.

We recognise that this may feel disappointing or frustrating, especially if you were hoping to access support right now. Please know that we do not take this lightly, and we hold the impact of this decision with care.

Why We’re Pausing And What’s Happening Now

Right now:

  • People are waiting up to 9 months for an assessment

  • Over 1,000 people are on our therapy waiting list

We recognise that long waiting times can have a real impact on people’s wellbeing and we we are working hard to secure funding and partnerships which will see us continue our service going forward.

This decision is rooted in our commitment to sustainability, equitable access, and doing right by the people who place their trust in us.

We’re Inviting You Into the Conversation

Rather than making decisions in isolation, we are inviting our community into a consultation process to help shape the future of our therapy services.

Your insights will support us in better understanding:

  • What kind of support is most needed right now

  • When and how people are realistically able to access support

  • Whether any level of contribution might be possible for some people (where appropriate)

  • What alternatives or additional forms of support, beyond 1-to-1 therapy, would be genuinely helpful

This consultation will directly inform how we redesign and adapt our services.

This is a consultation period.

We are listening. We are learning. And we believe that the people most affected by our services should help shape them. Once the consultation closes, we will share what we’ve learned and explain clearly what decisions have been made and why.

How to Take Part - Your Voice Matters!

If you would like to contribute, please complete our short consultation survey using the button below but please note that currently, you will NOT be able to access the therapy service until further notice. In the meantime, you can access resources via our resources page.

Deadline: 13th February 2026

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for staying engaged with Black Minds Matter UK. We know this is not easy and our decision to pause the service was not taken lightly. We appreciate your honesty, patience, and trust as we work through this next phase together.

After the consultation period has finished - March 2026, we will be in close contact with our existing clients to explain the options for available support. We will be transparent in our communication via email, our socials as well as our website and will keep you updated every step of the way. The website will be updated with the new pathway options for any new clients. We hope this is clear and look forward to hearing your thoughts via our consultation.

With care,
Black Minds Matter UK
